HOT-FOOTING IT TO SCHOOL

Thousands of local East Sussex children have been walking to school as part of East Sussex County Council's campaign to change their travel habits.

More than 11,000 school children from 45 primary schools took part in the "Hot-Footers" Walk to School Week, 3 '“ 7 October. The initiative encourages the whole community to think about how to make travelling safe, healthy and better for the environment.

The children earned points depending on how they got to school each day, with walking, cycling, using public transport or 'parking and striding' scoring most highly. The top three performing schools will win a tree for their grounds. This highlights the role trees play in balancing the effect of CO2 emissions, many of which are from motorised transport.
