Bring back our cockerel

AS AN elderly resident of Angmering village, my family go back a long time to my great-grandmother's day. All were christened at St Margaret's Church.

As children we were all told about the cockerel on top of the church tower. So, please, when will it be put back?

An article in this month's Countryman magazine, by a Mr H. Brown, tells how, in the ninth century, Pope Nicholas I ordained that all weather vanes should be in the shape of a cockerel, to remind people of Peter's denying Christ and the cock crowing that followed.
