Canadian soldiers used café as cinema
I was about 10 years old then and it was the done thing to hang about outside with your friends, looking forlorn, hoping that a kind soldier would say: "Do you want to come in and see the movie, boys?"
The show always started with a sing-song, followed by the main feature, which, surprise, surprise, was usually an early John Wayne western, or war film.
