Brighton woman jailed for ‘pre-meditated plan to kidnap, torture and murder’ ex-lover

A woman who plotted to kidnap, torture and murder a former lover by following a detailed ‘to-do-list’ has been jailed.

Sophie George, 20, of Highbrook Close in Brighton, was jailed for 13.5 years on Wednesday (April 6) after pleading guilty to attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, police said.

It followed an incident shortly after midnight on Saturday, October 10, 2020, in which George, who was 18 at the time, arranged to be picked up by a man who was known to her.

On the way to his house she asked if they could take a detour, during which she jumped out and collected two filled shopping bags.

As the pair continued on their journey, George became insistent they drive to a nearby park and on several occasions grabbed the wheel.

A police spokesman said: “As her victim – a 23-year-old man – resisted, George pulled out a knife in Selsfield Drive and threatened him.

“A struggle ensued as the pair left the van and fought in the street, during which the victim managed to throw the knife into a bush.
