Volunteers needed to make a difference to a young person's life

EAST SUSSEX County Council are searching for caring volunteers to help children with autism or special needs.

'Spectrum', the council's service which provides support, information and advice to enable children and young people with autism to get involved in mainstream groups, after school clubs, play schemes, clubs or activities, needs volunteers who could give a small amount of their time to help the youngsters get the most out of the activity they are involved in.

The volunteers' job would be to work alongside the youngster and make sure their disability or special need isn't a barrier to having fun or learning.

Spectrum currently helps around 200 children take part in activities they otherwise might miss out on.

The council offers full training and support to the volunteer, who would also be required to undergo a CRB check.

Cllr Meg Stroude, the County Council's Lead Member for Children and Families said:

"Anyone who has ever volunteered knows how extremely rewarding it can be. That's especially true for those who do voluntary work with children."
