Here is Brighton & Hove Albion’s latest winter transfer window activity as deadline day looms.

After a record-breaking Premier League campaign in 2021/22, with a highest-ever finish and record points tally in the top-flight, Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton look in good shape for another season of success.

Albion sit sixth in the Premier League, five points behind place-above Tottenham Hotspur with two games in hand, and have advanced to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

But as the winter transfer window draws to a close, the Seagulls will look to strengthen, as well as bid farewell to fan favourites and fringe players alike, as they continue to attack the 2022/23 campaign.

When did the winter transfer window open?

The winter transfer window for Premier League and English Football League (EFL) clubs, as well as those in the Scottish leagues, opened on Sunday, January 1 2023.

When does the winter transfer window close?

Which players have left Brighton during the transfer window?

Brighton have said goodbye to a fan favourite and one of last season’s mainstays.

Popular midfielder Leandro Trossard joined league leaders Arsenal on a long-term contract on January 20, in a deal worth £21million plus add-ons.

The 28-year-old announced his intentions to leave the Seagulls through his agent Josy Comhair on January 13, following a very public fall out with De Zerbi.

The Belgian signed for Albion in August 2019. He made 121 appearances for the club, scoring 25 goals and providing 14 assists.

The winger had scored seven and registered three assists in 16 games for Brighton this season, but had not played since featuring in the Seagulls’ 4-2 defeat to the Gunners on New Year’s Eve.

Meanwhile, Aaron Connolly sealed a loan move to Championship outfit Hull City on January 6.

The Republic of Ireland international joined Venezia on a season-long loan deal on July 14, but made just five appearances for the Serie B club.

Connolly agreed to cut short his time in Italy in order to join Liam Rosenior’s Hull. The 23-year-old has, so far, netted two goals in three Championship games for the Tigers.

Which players have signed for Brighton during the transfer window?

Brighton & Hove Albion have, so far, welcomed three new faces to the Amex during the winter transfer window.

Albion completed the signing of Argentina wonderkid Facundo Buonanotte at the beginning of the window.

The Seagulls reached an agreement with Club Atlético Rosario Central to sign the 18-year-old in November in a deal worth up to £10million.

The attacking midfielder, who has five Argentina under-20 caps, made his senior debut for Rosario last season, and registered four goals and two assists in 34 appearances.

Teenage forward Mark O’Mahony swapped Cork City for Brighton on January 26.

O’Mahony, who turned 18 earlier this month, signed a contract until June 2025 and will link up with the under-21s.

He was named the Republic of Ireland’s under-17 player of the year last year and has also represented his country at under-18 and under-19 level.

The youngster made his debut for Cork in the League of Ireland last season, making nine appearances as he helped the Rebel Army win promotion back to the Premier Division.

Meanwhile, talented midfielder Yasin Ayari moved to Brighton from Swedish side AIK on January 30.

The 19-year-old Sweden international has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract until June 2027 and arrived for a fee worth up to £6million.

The teenager enjoyed a breakout season at AIK during the 2021/22 campaign. Ayabi registered four goals and two assists in 24 Allsvenskan games for the Stockholm-based club.

He earned his first senior Sweden cap on January 9, playing 82 minutes of the 2-0 win in Finland. Ayari won his second cap three days later. The teenager came off the bench to play the final 13 minutes of Sweden’s 2-1 victory over Iceland.

Net spend is defined as being the difference between money that a club has earned from player sales and the money spent on new signings.

As of January 31, Albion have accumulated £8.5million in player sales, according to transfermarkt.co.uk.

Whilst the Seagulls have spent a total of £21million on new recruits.

Therefore, Brighton’s total net spend at the time of publication sits at -£12.5million.
