Eight people treated after St Leonards chemical incident

Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) are currently on the scene treating and assessing those affected.
A SECAmb spokesperson said: “SECAmb was called to reports of a suspected chemical incident at Freshfieds waste site in Bexhill Road, St Leonards, shortly after 8.30am this morning.

Hide Ad“Ambulance crews including paramedics from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) have attended the scene.
“We are currently treating and assessing eight patients at the site.
“A major incident was declared but this has now been stood down.”
Paramedics were joined on the scene by firefighters from Bohemia Road and The Ridge in Hastings, along with the Command Support Unit from Bexhill Fire Station. Two fire officers, including a HAZMAT officer, have also been mobilised to the scene.
The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.

Hide AdThe tip remains cordoned off and residents are asked to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution.
