Local church forced to close

The Parochial Church Council of St James Church, in Littlehampton, met recently and agreed that it was no longer possible for the church to continue.
Before the church can close, a consultation process must take place.

Hide AdThe first stage of this will be on Saturday October 15 when the Archdeacon of Chichester, the Ven. Douglas McKittrick, will chair a meeting at St James Church at 11am with coffee and tea available in the church hall from 10.30am.
The Archdeacon will explain the procedure that has to be followed and will give an opportunity to people who are concerned about the future use of the building to make their own views known.
In other news, a new deacon has arrived for the Roman Catholic churches of Littlehampton and Rustington.
Deacon Adrian Burnett arrived in July with his wife and son and took up his position as deacon in the parishes of St Catherine’s, in Littlehampton and St Joseph’s, in Rustington, last month.

Hide AdHe said: “In terms of my role in the Parish, I am here firstly to support Father Dominic O’Hara, the Parish Priest, but I will be taking responsibility for the Baptismal programme and marriages.
“I hope to get further involved with the parish and the wider community as I settle in, and find my feet.
“These are exciting times for me, and I look forward to serving the local community to the best of my ability.”
