LETTER: Service already over-stretched

I am very concerned about the impact the doctors' strikes and new contract will have on the NHS. It's a dangerous situation for patients, for the NHS and for the doctors.

The government needs to do something now and Jeremy Hunt has to see some sense in this matter. It’s obvious to most people that junior hospital doctors do work at weekends. The NHS cannot operate a full seven-day service without considerable extra resources as the present service is already over-stretched.

We would need to train and employ more doctors, nurses and support staff and the extra expense would be prohibitive at present. Contrary to what Mr Cameron is saying, many people do not believe that the NHS is safe in Conservatives hands!
