Keira Lee, 10, impressed her teachers at Sompting Village Primary School in White Styles Road, Sompting, with the poem she wrote while learning about VE Day. Called Time to Celebrate!, the poem describes the feelings of those who were going through the celebrations. Her mother Becky, a health care assistant on the surgical ward at Worthing Hospital, said: "When I first read it i had to choke back the tears. "It is such beautiful writing; I'm such a proud mum." Here is the poem in full: Time to Celebrate! By Keira Lee Oh V.E. Day. Oh V.E. Day The happiest day for some, Others were crying tears, While others were having fun. Finally the brutal war was won People could now have some fun! Celebrating the victory of Europe People were happy the war was won Some people's hearts were broken Because loved ones were gone Fleeing their lives, to protect us all Crying, Singing, Others dancing all day long Sharing rationed food For people to eat, all the food they want. Oh V.E. Day. Oh V.E. Day, Finally the war was over. YAY!
